Shake Up the Place

Shake Up the Place

A longstanding reggae group based in upstate New York, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant has been going strong since the late '90s, cranking out authentic music in the roots tradition, full of positivity and good vibes and backed by talented, always on-point live instrumentation. While the group’s official roster is mysterious (no credits are on the albums), the main singers are usually Kevin Kinsilla (originally from John Brown's Body) and Ras Jay Champany. Sylford Walker lends his vocals to "My Roots" and "Hard Times," while Prince Jazzbo joins them for the powerful "Africa" and "Recession." Though it’s not overwhelmingly original, that's not really the point. Shake Up the Place is straight-up throwback roots reggae, with a little dub thrown in for good measure and an abundance of heart. Other standouts include "Pharaoh's Army," "Ringer's Rock," and the instrumental track "Strength."
