Here, The Replacements capture what they did best early on, playing a clash of tongue-in-cheek, bratty punk that is both messy and intricate. “Kids Don’t Follow” hurtles forward with a diving and coiling guitar melody, countered by Paul Westerberg’s pissed-off shouting; “White and Lazy” has a bluesy harmonica leading the way until the song rips into a furious full sprint at the end. But the band shows a just slightly softer side with “Go,” as close to a ballad as Westerberg got in this early stage.
