DOPE ep..
Substantial is clearly one of those hip hop artists who you can always count on to bring you consistent quality of lyricism, wit, delivery and overral soulfulness that lacks in most modern rap and R&B.
A new-school Common for the next generation, this Substantial Burns EP is a great example of what happens when you get a traditional breakbeat-based producer, ala Burns, and let a world-class wordsmith loose to approach each track in fresh new ways. Burns provides some instantly catchy moments here, ("It's Showtime", "Logicool"), and the guests certainly do not let any of the tracks faulter. Substantial's performance here further cements him as star-on-the-rise, deftly utilizing all the tools in his arsenal. From Storytelling tracks (ie. the hilarious "WWKYA Tour with Tonedeff and PackFM of Extended Famm) to idyllic social commentary ("Nobody Cares (f/ Wealth)" - there's many sides of the coin shown here.
Overrall, this is a great holdover while we wait for Substantial's third album.

Substantial is a hip hop artist from P.G., he lives in baltimore. With that being said, there are a lot of good artist from d.c., md, metropolitan area. Oddisee, x.o., y.u., godsilla, diggs, the fif, ankh amen ra, kenn starr, kaimbr, I could go on for days with the list. If you haven't heard these artists you NEED to check them out, Trust. Please don't sleep on Maryland. Peace.
