Glen Brown showcases his production chops on these gems recorded for his Pantomime label between 1970 and 1974. Reggae covers of soul shots by Isaac Hayes (“Do Your Thing”) and Smokey Robinson (“You Really Got a Hold on Me”) are a sweet counterpoint to the set’s meditative material, like Brown’s own brilliant “Away with the Bad” and Little Roy’s “Father’s Call.” A touch of jazz is heard in the swinging organ on Roman Stewart’s “Never Too Young to Learn,” while Gregory Isaacs' syrupy “One One Coco” is the Cool Ruler at his prime.
