American Dream

American Dream

This self-described “CaliRockReggae” artist both celebrates love and decries materialism in his songs, drawing upon his Christian faith for inspiration. Balli’s music often recalls the intoxicating grooves and the militant idealism of Bob Marley, though he also embraces hip-hop, pop and rock influences as well. The balmy, wistful rhythms of the title track convey an attack on conformity and greed, spurred on by guest rapping by P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval. Balli extends his focus worldwide in “Favela” (an unsparing portrait of Brazilian ghetto life featuring singer Nengo Vieira) and “See What We Become” (a salute to the nation of Israel reminiscent of Marley’s “Exodus”). There are sweeter moments as well, such as the bubbly romantic tune “Take My Love” and the acoustic-driven, God-centered “You Are There.” “All We Need is Love” (re-recorded from his first album) states Balli’s commitment to brotherhood and spiritual unity in clear, resonant terms. Ultimately, American Dream transcends national borders through its multi-cultural sound and hopeful, compassionate message.
