One Noise

One Noise

On their third album, Satellites & Sirens go for a glittering electronic pop sound that’s both sleek and slightly funky. One Noise combines the trippy sweetness of Owl City with the unguarded reverence of Hillsong in tracks that grab the ear even as they bolster the spirit. Geoff Hunker sings with an enthusiasm that makes his testimonies sound urgent and personal. Dave Willey’s synthesizers give the tracks a distinctive ‘80s-inspired texture, spiced up by David Troyer’s jabbing guitar riffs and anchored by Jonathan Dimmel’s assertive drum work. The band’s interweaving of earthy and ethereal sounds lets them shift from the techno tingle of “Jump Start My Heart” to the stomping groove of “Our God Is Able” without losing consistency. Rebirth and redemption are the recurring lyrical themes here, expressed with both joy and yearning in tracks like “We Are Yours,” “Magnetic," and the title number. Hawk Nelson’s Jonathan Steingard shares lead vocals with Hunker on the airily pulsating “Breakthrough.” “United Kingdom” closes One Noise with a final hosanna of shimmering praise.
