Harold Ray Live In Concert

As the brother of Irish folk singer Christy Moore, Luka Bloom (born Barry Moore) has his own twist on being Irish and a folk singer. He sings of his home country in "A Seed Was Sown," hoping that relations with England can be mended after Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Dublin's Garden of Remembrance. He mourns the end of a tradition in the haunting "Across the Breeze," describing how Ireland has banned peat burning. He addresses suicide with the life-affirming "You Survive." "Gaman," which is Japanese for "enduring the unendurable," looks at Japan's tragic earthquake and tsunami with compassion. Most importantly, Bloom has assembled his own version of a modern folk circle, inviting Conor Byrne, Steve Cooney, Glen Hansard, Donal Lunny, Iarla Ó Lionáird, and Elmear Quinn to join him on an album that adds traditional folk accents to songs that could only have been written in modern times. Bloom continues to quietly assemble a brilliant catalog of music.
