iTunes Review
On their sophomore LP, Cage the Elephant snarl, flail and smash their way through a brace of heavy yet bouncy tracks before coming to an uneasy resting place at the album’s end. Like Kentucky-bred quintet’s debut offering, Thank You Happy Birthday owes an obvious debt to the Pixies; singer Matt Shultz’s fearsome yelps come directly from Black Francis’ manic playbook. Beyond this, the band stakes out its own territory thanks to a self-aware lyric sensibility, violent-to-delicate guitar riffage and a bipolar sense of dynamics. Schulz and his cohorts pull back from the brink of chaos by emphasizing hyper-catchy chorus hooks on tracks like “Around My Head,” “Aberdeen” and “Shake Me Down.” Dollops of speed-metal (“2024”), faux-mellow pop (“Rubber Ball”) and surf guitar-rock (”Indy Kidz”) keep the listener from getting comfortable, setting things up for the closing number “Flow,” a simmering tribal stoner jam. Shultz’s bratty, taunting vocal spews are as much directed at his own rock-star pretensions as the stupidities of the world around him.

OK.....
First of all im gonna say that this album is a blend of 2 genres. it is psychedelic rock album/ alternative album if that makes sense. here is what i would seperate this album into if they were 2 different albums.
alternative:
1:Aberdeen
2:Shake Me Down
3:2024
4:Rubber Ball
5:Right Before My Eyes
6:Japanese Buffalo
7:Flow
Psychedelic rock
1:Always something
2:Indy Kids
3:2024
4:Sell Yourself
5:Sabertooth Tiger
So if you guys like only hard rock you just might want to get those 5 songs... but if you guys just like alternative you might just want those 7 songs, but if you guys are like me you would buy the entire album!!!!!
A new standard for modern rock
Cage the Elephant's debut album was without a doubt one of the greatest entries in the rock genre in recent years. Their sound was unmistakable among all the other bands heard on the radio. CAGE THE ELEPHANT is still one of my favorite rock albums ever.
Now, how could the dudes from Kentucky possibly up the ante? Well the answer is THANK YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY. At first, this album may be a little overwhelming, and you may think that you don’t like it. But you have to let it grow on you. Listen to this album. Really listen to it. Play it in the car, in the gym, on your lunch break, and all over your house. This record is unbelievably good. Every song carries the essence of the insanity of the first album in some way. Songs like “Sell Yourself” and “Sabertooth Tiger” are ideal examples of the bands tendency for intensity. One of my favorite characteristics of THANK YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY is the epic variety. Songs like “2024,” “Shake Me Down,” and “Aberdeen” show us a new, different side of Cage the Elephant that is extremely good. The album’s slower songs (“Rubber Ball” and “Right Before My Eyes”) really showcase Matt’s vocal talent.
Overall this album is nearly perfect, and almost every song could be a great single. Cage the Elephant has even given a whole new meaning to “ooo’s” and “ahh’s.” I couldn’t be more satisfied with the lyrical and musical ability of these guys. THANK YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY is not just the album to beat in 2011, but a new standard for modern rock.
