Mr Dark comedy is back with his classic sound.

Best of Kenny Larkin

Kenny Larkin was one of the original artists featured in the Artificial Intelligence albums by Warp in the nineties. This album collects tracks from his 1994 album Azimuth (Azimuth, Q, Track, Tedra), his complete 2006 double EP Dark Comedy (Clavia's North, Without Sound, Plankton, Paranoid, The Bar, Eclectic), his complete 2006 Metaphor EP (Soulman, Nocturnal, Loop 2, Sympathy), and some additional tracks. Azimuth was one of my favorite releases from the A.I. series. The 30 second samples don't really do this kind of music justice. Fans of old school detroit techno and IDM music will find a lot to like here.

I bit of education may help!

First of all, can we not “dance” to all music? Before one becomes a critic one should research the artist. If one did, they would realize that Itunes has made a mistake and has made this mistake for years, there is no Techno classification. With out this many are mis-led, thinking they are going to listen to the next trendy hit, when in fact with Kenny they are getting the complete opposite, we are getting the most underground music available, music that only techno lovers will remotely understand. Music journalists and fans of techno are generally selective in their use of the term; so a clear distinction can be made between sometimes related but often qualitatively different styles, such as tech house and trance. "Techno" is also commonly confused with generalized descriptors, such as electronic music and dance music. Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, USA during the mid to late 1980s. The first recorded use of the word techno, in reference to a genre of music, was in 1988. Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno is seen as the foundation upon which a number of subgenres have been built.

Biography

Born: Detroit, MI

Years Active: '90s

Third Wave techno artist Kenny Larkin is a member of a new school of Detroit-based musicians taking the city's famous brand of hard-edged musical futurism into new and innovative areas. Although he missed out on the style's formative years in the mid- to late '80s due to a stint in the military, Larkin, a Detroit native, was brought up to speed upon his return by the likes of Juan Atkins and Derrick May, the latter of whose weekly radio shows inspired Larkin to pursue music production.
