The Dream Goes On

The Dream Goes On

An up-and-coming rapper from Columbus, Ohio, Mekka Don (real name Chukwuemeka Nnamdi Onyejekwe) was a standout football player at Ohio State before embarking on a law career in New York City. More inspired by recording studios than courtrooms, he left the legal world behind and embarked on recording his debut album, using a crowdfunding campaign to pay for it. The Dream Goes On is a solid debut; the 10-track effort focuses mostly on positive messages about reaching for the stars and trying to make it in the rap game. Radio-friendly production sports plenty of skittering snares and mountains of synths, with R&B hooks from collaborators like Brendalyn, C-Moe, and Lana Fame. Mekka’s definitely got potential, and his strive-centric message should resonate with the countless legions of struggling artists trying to make a name for themselves. Check out "Rockstar," "Forever Love," and "It's Our Time."
