Symbiosis

Symbiosis

On Symbiosis, this Texas sextet tempers its ferocity with ambient musical elements, adding shadings and subtleties to the dominant grinding guitars and jackhammer drums. Guitarist Chris Johnston and keyboardist Josh Modisette play particularly crucial roles in fleshing out the songs with prog-rock textures. Due credit also goes to singer Danon Saylor, whose throat-shredding screams and mellifluent clean vocals embody the tension between suffering and redemption that lies at the heart of ABFPB’s Spirit-filled message. Symbiosis doesn’t stint on raw aggression, with “Red Medic,” ”Forgiven Not Forgotten,” and “The Grateful Prey” standing out for their unrelenting attacks. “Come Clean” and especially “Reptilian Tongue” emphasize the band's hardcore punk underpinnings, while the instrumental track “Illumination” shows its ability to create moody, evocative soundscapes. Lyrically, the album’s standout moment comes with “Self-Disclosure,” a prayerfully confessional tune that puts the spotlight on Saylor’s unguarded vocals. From first track to last, ABFPB delivers plenty of instrumental muscle—as well as fervent testimony.
