Heartbeats and Brainwaves

Heartbeats and Brainwaves

Electric Six made their name by pumping up Van Halen-style rock past the point of absurdity, but for Heartbeats and Brainwaves they shifted toward making dramatic synth-pop of the ‘80s variety. Frontman Dick Valentine still finds plenty of time to interrogate excessive masculinity, parodying a would-be lothario atop Depeche Mode synth squiggles on "Psychic Visions," and embodying desperate lust on "Hello! I See You!" with gigantically silly keyboards as awesome as any spandex-clad guitar solo.
