Songs from the Psychedelic Time Clock - EP

In June 2012, Drivin' N' Cryin' released the first of a projected four-EP collection. Songs from the Psychedelic Time Clock is the third of those EPs, following Songs from the Laundromat and September 2012's Songs About Cars, Space and The Ramones. As its title suggests, this EP focuses on the psychedelic garage rock era of the '60s, when 12-string guitars, electric sitars, and unpredictable and ornate instrumentation blended for songs that took catchy hooks and sent them flying into outer space. Here, leader Kevn Kinney is in both troubadour and rock-historian mode. He even finds a spot for a spoken narrative in the midst of the swirling weirdness of "Upside Down Round and Round," which also ends with a primitive synth warbling into the darkness. Elements of The Kinks, The Count Five, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, and the crazier ends of the Nuggets and Pebbles series can be found in the mid-'60s melody and chime of "Sometime the Rain (Is Just the Rain)."
