iTunes Review
With 2011’s The Lovesick Jason Reeves takes a detour from his sentimental, singer/songwriter musings to create an album of love songs that’s unapologetically pop-centric. But rather then pick up the listeners and drop them smack-dab in the middle of an instant radio hit, he segues into the beats and barbed hooks. The amorous “Helium Hearts” opens with a familiar acoustic guitar-based foundation as a droning Hammond organ plays underneath a massage of sequenced beats before the song slowly unfolds into a summer smash. “Simple Song” starts with a similarly subdued feel as Reeves croons with whispery inflections like a younger Josh Rouse. On this tune the beats fall like big warm raindrops as Reeves morphs the music from strum ‘n’ bass to catchy R&B-tinged pop. Reeves took a different approach in the process of The Lovesick. He was simultaneously writing many of these songs as he recorded them, giving tracks like “No Lies” (featuring Colbie Caillat) some immediate, emotional urgency.
Customer Reviews
A beautiful album - from a beautiful soul.
He does it yet again. A beautiful album, which is no surprise as it is coming from the one and only Jason Reeves. Could not be happier that this new album is out. It's a must have. A couple of beautiful collabs with the amazing Colbie Callait and Kara Dioguardi on this album as well. Album of the year for those of us hopeless romantics who are a little 'Lovesick' - absolutely.
Such a beautiful human being - inside and out. Thank you for doing what you do, Jason. I honestly cannot thank you enough. Keep on giving us hope, and showing us that love is indeed real. <3
Not the Jason I knew and loved.
I absolutely loved Jason's previous albums, but this one feels like more of a sell out. There are still some good, catchy songs like the album's opening "Helium Hearts," but I just don't feel the connection to this album as I did to "Adventures of Heartache." Not digging the back beats and more upbeat music ("Sticks and Stones" is FAR too poppy), Jason's strength lies with a more pure acoustic sound.
The Lovesick in Its Glory
It's beeb a while since Jason Reeves has put out a full length album, and I speak for everyone that we couldn't be more happy that the lovesick is out. Reaching to the core of every heart string, Reeves puts love right out in the open on this album to give the listener a true look and meaning of love, wether it's bright and cheerful or dark and lonley, he reminds us there is always hope on the otherside. While many of the songs take a different approach then his last album, you can see that there is still the same equality and beauty behind his music and it never seems to make you wish for anything better. I would tell anyone and everyone to go out and buy this record, because it has so much warmth, beauty and life behind it Jason will forever remain stuck in you're mind.
