Sound City - Real to Reel

Sound City - Real to Reel

Dave Grohl's documentary film Sound City traces the history of one of Los Angeles' most iconic recording studios, where great albums such as Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Damn the Torpedoes, and Nirvana's own Nevermind were recorded. This soundtrack of original songs—recorded at Grohl's home studio, where he uses Sound City's legendary Neve soundboard—is a tribute to the days of that "warm, analog sound." He's joined by The Sound City Players, including Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, Rick Springfield, Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, Krist Novoselic, and other members of Foo Fighters. Each track features a different star. Stevie Nicks brings "You Can't Fix This," a catchy number that recalls the days of cutting a vocal track until you got it right. Fear's Lee Ving joins Queens of the Stone Age's Alain Johannes, The Germs' Pat Smear, and Grohl for the tense pulse of "Your Wife Is Calling." Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana bring the noise for "Cut Me Some Slack." For a quickly assembled superstar-packed celebration, there's a lot of high-level jamming goin' on.
