Talahomi Way

Seeing heaven in the wild flower of mid-‘60s Beach Boys records, Sean O’Hagan’s ear for exotic orchestral arrangements is particular. For his band’s ninth album, he’ll pitch a John Barry harmonica into the rustic “A Rock In May,” or throw sharp trumpet blasts into “Wander, Jack Wander” to create a sense of dramatic geography. “To the Abbey” turns up the wonder, pushing its melodic face into a bed of sparkling harp, while “Angel Connector” uses bubbling synths to offer a glimpse of the future.
