Everything Waits to Be Noticed

Everything Waits to Be Noticed

A truly ageless singer, Art Garfunkel retains his choirboy aura despite decades as a recording artist. The celestial purity of his voice is used to full advantage on 2002’s Everything Waits to Be Noticed, his most consistent album since 1973’s Angel Clare. Producer Billy Mann and singer/songwriters Buddy Mondlock and Maia Sharp play a conspicuous role in shaping the album’s dreamy, acoustic-based sound. Tracks like “The Thread,” “Perfect Moment,” and the title number are distinguished by their intelligent, evocative lyrics. Garfunkel turns his formal singing demeanor to his advantage on “Every Now and Then” and “The Kid,” lending them the quality of timeless ballads. Though he doesn’t try to rock out, he does loosen up a bit on upbeat tunes like “Bounce,” “Crossing Lines,” and “How Did You Know?” The album is further enriched by Mondlock and Sharp’s seamless harmonies. Taken as a whole, these tracks have an otherworldly quality, hovering between the bittersweet and the serene. Archly romantic and superbly made, Everything Waits to Be Noticed should not be overlooked by any fan of elegant folk-pop.
