Listen to This!!! (Original Recordings 1981-1983)

Although San Jose, California’s Los Olvidados remain more obscure than fellow founding fathers of the ‘80s skate-punk family tree, they were an integral root. Los Olvidados (translation: The Forgotten Ones) first assembled in 1980, playing parties and punk shows before debuting their first recordings on the 1982 Bay Area compilation, Not So Quiet On The Western Front and Thrasher Magazine’s Skate Rock series. They split in the mid-‘80s immediately after recording a full-length album, leaving behind unmixed studio tapes. Fast forward to 2002 and the band reunited following the release of Listen To This! (Original Recordings 1981– 1983). These songs have aged well. The punchy opener “Listen to You” sounds youthfully explosive while “Something New” rages against boredom with timeless angst and heavy guitar riffs. Musically, the songs sound influenced by first generation punk like Radio Birdman, the Saints, and the Stooges, but singer Mike Voss’ snarling West Coast drawl sounds more akin to T.S.O.L, The Adolescents and the Faction.
