I Created Disco

“Disco disappeared, didn’t it? Everyone got sick of it. Now I’m reviving it, with space goggles, or something.” So says 23-year old Scotsman Calvin Harris, who allegedly created this collection of ‘80s-styled dance numbers on an “ancient” Amiga computer in his bedroom. Ok, MySpace stories and label hype aside, this guy is a wizard and if you don’t believe us, just try to resist tracks like “The Girls” or “Acceptable in the ‘80s” with their glossy synths, crisp percussion and perfectly paced BPMs. Slow it down a tad and invite Beck and LCD to the party with “Merrymaking at My Place,” and “Vegas.”  Clever lyrics abound, complete with cheeky nods to naughty nightclubbing rituals. But you’ve been warned: you’ll be doing the bump to “Disco Heat” before you’ve had a chance to spit-polish those silver vintage platforms in the back of your closet.
