After placing first on MTV's Rock the Cradle competition, singer/songwriter Crosby Loggins steps out to release his solo debut Time to Move. The album finds him upholding the family troubadour tradition established by his hit-making dad Kenny nearly 40 years ago. Loggins avoids the more boisterous aspects of his father’s style in favor of a wistful approach reminiscent of James Taylor’s early work. An unashamed romantic, he doesn’t mind revealing his insecurities even as turns on his laid-back charm. “Seriously,” “Good Enough” and “Heaven Help Me” are slightly self-critical tunes delivered with a mellow air. Bittersweet is the prevailing mood here, as shown by the regretful “Nobody No More” and the tentatively hopeful “You Want to Be With Me.” Loggins does well with shuffling groove tunes like “Better Days” and slightly countrified numbers like “Radio Heart,” helped along by producer John Alagia’s well-buffed production. John Mayer lends vocal support to “Good Enough,” a sleek slice of modern pop.
