Perspective

Perspective

Coming out of Seattle, Grynch has built a strong local following over the past several years and is probably best known for his 2009 viral hit single/video "My Volvo." Perspective is his third full-length and arguably his best work to date. It's a strong collection of genuine Everyman hip-hop, with likeable, down-to-earth rhymes that focus on what he really knows about: the struggles of an independent emcee ("So Far" featuring Brother Ali), normal life in the Pacific Northwest ("Mr. Rogers"), and reflections on women and song ("Too High"). The production is classic-style boom-bap all the way, loaded with hefty drums and nicely flipped samples, while avoiding the walls of synths and jittery drums that dominate today's chart-topping hits. Jake One contributes several tracks, while other quality beats come courtesy of Budo, D-Sane, and Trox, among others.
