Hoodoo

Hoodoo

For anyone who loves hard-rock ‘70s style, Krokus are the band to be checking out. Their riffs are pure boogie and power chords, with more than a tip of the hat towards Bon Scott-era AC/DC. The cover of the Steppenwolf classic “Born to Be Wild” flows in perfect procession from the pumping grind of “Hoodoo Woman” and the solid, amp-fueled perfection of “Rock ‘n Roll Handshake.” The guitar solos are vintage. The rhythms are rock solid. This Swiss hard-rock group may never again perform in the arenas, but they’re ready to tear the clubs apart. There isn’t a weak track here. Singer Marc Storace sings with the same passion that makes “In My Blood” a literal truth. “Dirty Street,” “Keep Me Rollin” and “Shot of Love” could convince anyone it’s 1977-78 if you withhold the actual copyright date. “Firestar” picks up the pace to end things on an even harder note. Chuck Berry never altered his attack. Why should these guys? Classic rock is classic rock.
