A former Shakespearian actor currently living in Nashville, Amy Speace knows it’s the performance that matters. For That Kind of Girl, she assembled an A-team featuring producer and drummer Neilson Hubbard, guitarists Will Kimbrough (Rodney Crowell) and Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket), upright bassist Dean Marold, keyboardist Danny Mitchell (also on horns), and mandolinist Eamon McLoughlin (also on strings). Over three days in East Nashville, they pulled together these 12 originals. It’s a choice look at the arc of a love affair, its eventual dissolution in tears and alcohol, and a modest recovery. “Three Days” alone lingers with danger in the air.
