Listening to this again and again.....

I don't know exactly how to identify what subtle elements of this band's sound seem to push it beyond the realm of pleasing but mildly predictable alt folk. All I know is that I cannot stop listening to this album. It's in a world of its own. Friend of All the World has these melodies that immediately imbed themselves in memory - but without any manipulative, heavy-handed drama. It's just there - really, really good song writing. Especially "Devil May Care" and "Golden Days." All I can say is that listening to my favorite - "Up These Branches" has me thinking about death, and Native American burial, and weirdly - Roberta Flack - a bizarre association except that same combination of winsome and very old soul all wrapped up together is here, too.
