Jesus Price Supastar

Jesus Price Supastar

A veteran of the Boot Camp Clik affiliated Heltah Skeltah, Sean Price has been trading in rugged New York street rhymes for over a decade. Though Heltah Skeltah failed to find mainstream success, their skeletal beats, gloomy lyrical aesthetic, and tongue twisting verbal dexterity have won them the lasting affection of a legion of hardcore hip-hop fans. In 2004 Price made a surprisingly vital return to Hip-Hop with the largely 9th Wonder produced Monkey Barz. Though Jesus Price Supastar features a more diverse production roster, enlisting veterans like P.F. Cuttin’ and relative newcomers such as Illmind, it stays true to Monkey Barz’ rough-hewn template, balancing cavernous drums against ghostly soul samples to create gem-like slices of New York boom-bap. As with any Boot Camp Clik project, Jesus Price Supastar is graced by several stellar guest appearances from other members of the Clik. “Oops up Side Ya Head” sees Steele of Smif N’ Wessun trading street-struck tales of violence and lyrical prowess, while Black Moon veteran Buckshot blesses the dusted soul of cardiac with his hyperkinetic flow. Jesus Price Supastar is a practiced exercise in classic Boot Camp Clik badinage, and should hold an embarrassment of delights for any fan of vintage New York Hip-Hop.
