No Excuses

No Excuses

A card-carrying member of the Hall of Justus collective, and best known for his work with Little Brother, Foreign Exchange, and Sean Price, Bronx MC Chaundon appeared on a slew of projects before dropping his official solo debut Carnage in 2008. Following several good mixtapes (Black Dynamite, Black Dynamite's Revenge, Baby Making Music), he returns with No Excuses, this time enlisting more obscure producers like M-Phazes, Ill Ming, and DK the Punisher. The subject matter here ranges from straight up rhyme bravado ("Y'all Don't Want It") to the trials and tribulations of life on the road ("Home Sick") to several good joints about the dichotomy of females ("Nice Girl," "The Blacker the Berry," and "Crazy"). While nothing here is necessarily groundbreaking, there is no denying the dude has a burly flow and a gift with wordplay. Not overtly thugged-out, hyper sensitive, or full of himself, Chaundon is strong all-around rapper, and this is a solid release.
