Au Revoir Simone take their name from a line in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, and like the movie, their music pulses with a childlike sense of whimsy. Still Night, Still Light displays the Brooklyn trio’s penchant for crafting wistful girl-group harmonies, minimalist Casio hooks, and pop music made for gazing out the bus window. Whether in the brisk jog of “Shadows” or the soft cooing of “Grateful,” the album is melancholy, innocent, and uplifting all at once.
