The next time midnight hits and you feel like going from 0 to 60 on a rain-slicked open road, know this: the many mirror ball shades of Milky Disco, Vol. 2 have got you covered. A welcome sequel to one of neo-disco's first essential scene-setting compilations, it pairs several familiar producers (Luke Vibert's Kerrier District alias, a couple of Black Devil Disco Club cuts) with a focus on new talent (Canyons, Gatto Fritto, CFCF) and crossover artists who are indebted to disco in spirit more than anything as obvious as the Balearic bent of Secret Circuit's "Roll" or the spaced-out synths of Soft Rocks' "Leave Your Earth Behind." Some standouts from the living room side of things: the subterranean pop of Nite Jewel's "What Did He Say," the neon-lit, late night electro loops of Pollyester's "You Are Amen," and Eric Broucek's delirious dance-rock mix of Soft Circle's "Don't Just Stand There." Considering how consistent the whole thing is — across 24 tracks and more than two and a half hours, mind you — it's hard to imagine a third volume topping this. We're willing to wait and see, though.
