As a resident DJ at Berlin's Berghain club, Kobosil is intimately familiar with techno's dark side, and his debut album descends even further into the shadows, doling out minor-key melodies and metallic drums shrouded in reverb. Bruising cuts like "The Living Ritual" and "Aim for Target" are directed at cavernous dance floors, but much of the album seems suited for pensive, solitary moments: The ambient "Reflection" rustles with ghostly whispers, "When I Speak" hints at industrial dread, and "They Looked On" unfurls an elegiac synth melody over spare, stately drums.
