Front Row For the Donkey Show (Live)

With the 2008 comeback project The Power and the Glory Hole Faster Pussycat vocalist Taime Downe successfully fused the barroom metal of his band’s early years with his more recent love for industrial music. In that balance of styles the album slightly favored industrial, but this 2009 live album reverses that ratio, and brings the classic Faster Pussycat sound back to the fore. Recorded over the course of the band’s 2008 tour, Front Row for the Donkey Show includes the best of the band’s old songs, but they are delivered with added force and muscle. Even though the band includes no original members, the new lineup (comprised of members of Downe’s industrial act Newlydeads) captures the rude swing of the original article, but cuts out all the hair-metal fluff. Old party anthems like “Babylon,” “Bathroom Wall” and “Cathouse” (featured here in its original uncensored version) sit easily next to recent inventions like “Number 1 With a Bullet,” “Sex Drugs and Rock & Roll” and “Shut Up and F**k.” Faster Pussycat was a band that always wanted to rock harder and heavier than its hair metal audience would allow.
