While Fall fans likely have most of what's here elsewhere, for casual fans it's a generous helping of highlights chosen seemingly at random. There's a heavy emphasis on the group's early days through 1983 and then a sudden jump to 1990's Extricate for "Bill Is Dead," "Black Monk Theme," and others, before finally settling into the several tracks from 2001's Are You Are Missing Winner. Choices are partially based on what copyrights were available. However, with 30 tracks, there are quite a few excellent choices that no Fall fan would dismiss. "Frightened" and "Rebellious Jukebox" reach back to the group's primitive days, when it might have been mistaken for yet another punk band. But by the time of "The Classical," "Hip Priest," and "Winter," it was obvious that leader Mark E. Smith had something to say and an unusual way of saying it. "An Older Lover," "Solicitor in Studio," "Who Makes the Nazis," and "Pay Your Rates" are all frontline Fall tunes. But be forewarned: once this music unveils itself it works like quicksand, pulling you in ever deeper.
