Propinquity

Propinquity

Plucked from obscurity by the impeccable ears of the folks at Numero subsidiary Asterisk, Propinquity is the lone full-length release from a set of CSNY infatuated post-folkies from the wilds of early ‘70s Boulder, Colorado coffee-house circuit. Like CSNY, the group featured a set of talented singer-songwriters whose competing aesthetics lend Propinquity unexpected depth and musical dynamism. As is to be expected from an album so deeply steeped in the folk-hippie ethos, Propinquity features gently picked acoustic guitars, soaring harmonies and lyrical references to pastoral utopias, fairy tales, and storybook romances. Propinquity’s songwriters demonstrate unquestionable talent, and the strength of songs like “Window” and the gentle “I’ll Be Here In The Morning” is augmented by sterling musicianship and inventive arrangements. Fans of CSNY, Joni Mitchell, and Numero’s earlier Ladies from the Canyon compilation will be stunned by the quality of Propinquity and amazed that it has gone undiscovered for so long. This is truly a first rate album.
