Richard Buckner’s first album in five years, Our Blood was born out of difficult circumstances that included the loss of two sets of recordings due to a tape-machine breakdown and a laptop theft. Standouts like “Escape” and “Witness” possess the urgency and focus you’d expect of an artist who’s been knocked sideways but is still determined to serve his songs of love, loss, and regret. That vintage keyboards take precedence over Buckner’s usual acoustic guitar makes Our Blood even more startling.
