Wrektime / K.I.M. - EP

After debuting on Black Moon's classic 1993 album Enta Da Stage, fellow Brooklyn representatives Smif-n-Wessun were perfectly poised to continue spreading the message of The Boot Camp Clik, serving up dark yet funky production (from Da Beatminerz) paired with back-and-forth wordplay about the grim realities of Bucktown life. Nearly two decades later, Tek and Steele are still going strong; they continue to tour the globe and released the excellent Monumental project with Pete Rock in 2011. This early single, reissued by original label Wreck Records, sports two stellar jams from their much-loved Dah Shinin LP, with instrumental versions for both. Deep bass lines and chunky drums dominate, with the requisite sax snippets that recall the golden era and sharp rhymes centered on BK dominance and steady smoking. While not as well-known as hits like "Bucktown" and "Sound Bwoy Buriell," this is still great music from two of the best.
