Boneshaker

For her sixth studio album, country singer Catherine Britt broadens her sound for an eclectic collection of roots songs all tied together by her gritty, dynamic voice. Working with American producer Ryan Hadlock for the first time, Britt switches up styles often, delivering swaggering, wall-rattling rock on the title track; bouncy, uplifting folk-pop on “Happier Day”; shadowy twang on “Nice Girl”; and rousing orchestral pop on “We’re All Waiting.” But she keeps things simple for the understated finale, “You and Me Against the World,” a duet with Texas songwriter Steve Earle. As plaintive fiddle swells in the background, Britt and Earle promise their unwavering love and support to one another, despite whatever trials and tribulations may come their way.
