Die Soundboy Die

Die Soundboy Die

Mellowing out doesn’t seem to be an option for Miguel Depedro as he heads into his second decade of detonating dance floors with shimmering shades of dubstep, IDM and hardcore techno. Oh sure, Depedro can be a bit of a sentimentalist, from a handful of hazy Kid606 releases with Love in their title (Why I Love Life, P.S. You Love Me) to the clicks, cuts and drone-on chords that bring Die Soundboy Die back down to earth. Aside from those ambient detours, Die — Kid606’s latest “EP” despite bypassing the 45-minute mark — is centered around the sort of sounds that  provide the oomph in low-end love letters like dubstep and drum & bass. That includes wobbly, sheet metal-like synths; wailing sirens; speaker-bending breaks; and classic rave samples like the swift Moby nod (from his definitive anthem, “Go”) that drives “Get In the Way.” All delivered with the precision of a punk prankster that’s been around the bass bins a few times.
