At first blush, Dara Maclean can be taken as a Christian answer to the current crop of retro divas popular in the secular market. But this Texas-based singer/songwriter fills her debut album for Word Records with more than just family-friendly versions of familiar R&B and pop sounds. Maclean’s background in church ministry is evident in every track — there’s a solid Biblical grounding to her lyrics that lends weight to her airiest melodies. You Got My Attention’s lead single “Suitcases” nicely sums up the essence of Maclean’s appeal — combining a buoyant hip-hop groove with a call to throw away personal baggage, it feels like a natural summertime hit. The boisterous, country-accented “Nothin’ You Won’t Do” and the horn-driven title track showcase both the sweet tone and the slightly husky edge to Maclean’s vocals. She does equally well with fervent expressions of praise like “Gratitude” and “So Good to Me” and lighter, more wistful numbers like “What Love Looks Like” and “It Had to Be You.”

WOW!!! I love Dara Maclean!!!!
The song suitcases personifies what the album and even more so how we should live our lives burden-less and fancy free. Not letting the weight of the past keep you from receiving & moving in the the gift of today also known as the "present" to find the the treasure and greatest hope of having the most Awesome Tomorrows.
Oh I also love her previous albums when her last name was Joy as an artist & on a separate note I needed here what she had to say on this album. The more I listen the more I receive God setting me free from the lies of what's kept me prisoner to pain and regret. I know now my pain doesn't belong to me it's Jesus's & every blood drop, sweat & tear is more precious to my Papa in Heaven then all the riches in all of creation. Cause the pain has a purpose & not a reminder of failure but of success. We all win. Jesus be praised we all win.

This Girl is Going Places!
A record like this doesn't come along very often. The music, songwriting, singing, production, passion, heart, tenderness, soulfulness, sweetness, and even a little grit all come together in a perfect blend of soul and urban pop music. It's real, it's relational, it connects. I love this record!! Truly an outstanding work of art.
