Tough Love (Deluxe Version)

Tough Love (Deluxe Version)

Even before her gorgeous 2012 debut, Devotion, we were captivated by Jessie Ware—her elegant cameos added simmering substance to hits from the likes of SBTRKT and Sampha. The South Londoner's second full-length has more spark than the first album’s candle-lit glow, but Ware’s signature sound—all heart-melting croon and late-night electro-soul grooves—makes Tough Love mesmerizing. The bass-heavy pulse of the title track captivates from the very beginning, showcasing the singer’s feather-light vocal against a minimal backing. Tough Love’s other great moments include the Sade-inspired "Sweetest Song” and "Say You Love Me” (which was co-written with Ed Sheeran). But ultimately, its Ware’s singing—subtle, romantic, and filled with yearning—that has us cueing up Tough Love again as soon as it’s finished.
