No Full Disclosure ...
This app sounds like a great idea, however, there is a 2GB size limit to your "locker" that they do not disclose until you try to sign up for the service. And by the way, speaking of signing up, I could not do so from my iPhone. I had to go to the website and complete the sign-up process from there as the interface from my device would not allow the creation of a new account, only signing in to an existing account. They state to "go beyond your devices storage limit" and while technically this is true, they should disclose that there is a 2GB storage limit and anything beyond requires a subscription fee. This is why I am rating this app 1-star. I did not even try to use the app, as I figured if they tried to ambush the user by witholding such information, there would be other "surprises" hidden within the EULA somewhere. And no, I don't want to take hours to read a bunch of legalease crap. Don't be so damn cheap, buy a device with larger storage and don't pay these developers the fees (allocate those funds towards a beter device). I travel frequently, have a 16 Gig iPhone, with pics, video, podcasts, tons of apps and more, and i still have room for more.
Good app, despite the personal hate
Pay no attention to the haters of the owner of mp3tunes.com. This is not a forum to discuss his personal issues.
The app is quite nice. It performs well, has a decent interface, etc. Some of the controls and navigational functiomns are a bit clunky, but on the whole, it's very satisfactory.
Awesome
I have been an mp3tunes subscriber for years. It is an awesome service and it provides me with access to over 90gb of my music just about anywhere. The service made my Squeezebox an absolute joy - now they have brought the same joy to my iPhone.
The UI is sleek and well organized. I found that it works pretty snappy even on 3g. It gives you a great visual readout of the download cache so you feel pretty comfortble that you are going to be hearing your whole song. The best features of the app/service:
- you choose the bittate. It goes up to 192k. Certainly a welcome setting.
- Smart playlists: kind of like genius playlists only better. The playlist area has some very cool mixes that are based on a mood, like "dinner party" or "aggressive". The nice thing os that it os able to build these mixes from ALL of my music. They also can create playlists based on an artist.
All in all I found this app to be top notch. The only complaint that I have is that when you drill down to album view, you can't pick the song on ye album that you want to start playing. Instead the app just loads up the album as the playlist and starts playing the first song on the list. This and some time outs when loading my large library were my only issues.
