Description
Use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a remote control for Front Row, DVD Player, VLC, Keynote, PowerPoint, Boxee, and just about anything else on your computer with Airmote!
• Sit back and watch movies, show photos, listen to podcasts and music. Remotely control your favorite media player applications from anywhere.
• Stand up and give a presentation, or demonstrate your software to your audience from across the auditorium.
• Customize everything. Add remote control layouts. Set up your own buttons. Make it do almost anything a keyboard can, to control a computer wirelessly over WiFi or even via the mobile network!
Several remote control layouts are built-in, optimized for applications like Front Row, DVD Player, Keynote, iTunes, iPhoto, and QuickTime Player and Boxee. Other layouts are optimized to take advantage of Apple's Mouse Keys, Full Keyboard Access, and VoiceOver features, for general control of the computer.
There's no need to run a special program on the Macintosh. AirMote uses standard VNC protocols every recent Mac already understands. Just give permission in the System Preferences and you're ready to go! Free third party software available on other computers may allow them to communicate with AirMote as well. See the website for details.
What's New In Version 1.1.1
Internal changes made AirMote compatible with OS 3.0.
Customer Reviews
Very promising
This review is for AirMote version 1.0. Within a few minutes of downloading I was able to create a custom remote for the Plex media center (based on XBMC) for OS X. I am happy with the result. I can see many more uses for this app. I look forward to experimenting with it more.
There is definitely some room for improvements, such as:
1. Even though I told AirMote to auto reconnect, if my iPhone goes to sleep AirMote will tell me that it can't connect to my Mac when I wake the iPhone. It says that wi-fi is not active when it is. In that case, I have to quite AirMote and re-launch it. This is annoying but I am sure it will be fixed soon.
2. When cycling through remote screens, you can only go one way. So if you have a bunch of different remotes set up you have to cycle through all of them the go back to the last remote you used. This should be fixed so you can cycle through forwards or backwards.
3. The option to have more than 12 buttons on a remote would be great.
Anyway, for a 1.0 release this works as advertised and I am very happy. I can't wait to see this app improve.
Great start!
Awesome! It's already worth the money. Can't wait for this to get more features.
I would like landscape mode option and an interface where the whole iPhone's touchscreen would be the mouse pad with a single tap anywhere for a right click.
Not as good as Air Mouse Pro
This application has only one advantage as I see it...it uses the VNC protocol instead of requiring additional software.
However it really lacks a trackpad. Air Mouse Pro gives you all the same media functionality (with VERY minimal setup) at half the price. You also get a trackpad, AND it will use the accelerometer to navigate as well.
This isn't necessarly a bad product, there are simply far superior solutions for less money.
