They ruined it!
This new version has many irritating new "features" that make the game less enjoyable, especially for those that try to achieve a good solution time. For one the animation is horrible and time consuming. Even though there is an option switch to turn it off it doesn't work. And now it asks for confirmation every time you want to auto-fill pencil marks. Its another time consuming button to push. We need a way to turn that off! And worst of all, even though I can still play the older, better version of the game, it will no longer post my times from that version.
Bottom line, this is a failed attempt at improvement. They made it worse not better. Give me the old version back!
Nothing New
Summary: Move along, nothing to see here.
-Notepad is a nice but empty feature.
-Basic features we have come to expect in a Sudoku game are noticeably missing.
-The price is very high considering how little the game offers.
-A clean and nicely done GUI doesn't justify the price.
-You are limited to portrait view. Landscape is unavailable.
My reasoning:
I have every Sudoku game available on the Ipad due to a night of strong pain killers and a tendency to text friends in my sleep. I purchased $210 of apps in my sleep one night and now I have every Sudoku title available on the Ipad in my library.
You can trust I keep my Ipad / Iphone locked away at night now, especially when taking medication.
I have tried them all, the better ones I played for quite awhile before making up my mind.
Ever since then I give every new Sudoku game a try if it looks promising. Based on the app information and screenshots I gave this one a shot.
Unfortunately it brings little new to the table.
-The GUI is nice and clean, entry is fairly straight forward.
-The notebook is something I liked but its very limited. It gives you a ghosted image of the game and a set of colored pens to allow you to make notes.
-pencil marks are what I would expect. but without the ability to isolate specific numbers or easily identify patterns, the notepad is pretty much useless.
Bottom line, the notepad is a nice idea thats not fully realized.
-I found the inability to use Landscape maddening. I didn't know there were any games left that didn't take advantage of landscape anymore.
There are some big things missing that I have come to expect as basic features for any Sudoku game. You can't highlight a number by itself to Isolate it from the chaos of a complicated puzzle.
Without that ability, identifying patterns is far too difficult. It isn't much different than doing a game in the paper.
The asking price is pretty high for a game thats so basic and featureless.
I keep going back to :) Sudoku + by Jason Linhart. Its the best out there in there in terms of teaching advanced methods and features. Give this one a pass and keep looking.
