Great value, fun game
I don't know what people are complaining about- the app is a great value ($10 for UNLIMITED puzzles!).
Feature rich, beautiful interface: awesome.
The app does an excellent job of displaying/navigating puzzles with ease, despite the small screen.
If you are into crosswords or puzzles, this app is a MUST have!
Great crossword app
Great implementation (very similar to BeCrosswords on Palm). Can only access crosswords freely available in the Across Lite (.puz) format. The NY Times stopped providing this years ago, but the Houston Chronicle crosswords are excellent and still available.
Slow & not intuitive
I bought this hoping to play today's New York Times with my account, but instead it presented me with some puzzles from 2000! (Really old puzzles.) It took me a while to figure out how to get puzzles from my nytimes subscription -- it is not easy as currently designed.
Once you've got the puzzle you want, the actual puzzle play is okay but not great. Typing works but feels slow and unresponsive. Tapping on the puzzle is tricky since squares are so small and unfortunately the pinch and zoom gestures seem to only work intermittently (this is version 1.0). Also the navigation arrows feel broken -- they display on a strange part of the screen, partially overlapping the keyboard.
I do like the clues view which shows partially- filled answers along with the clues. I also really like the way the application handles rotated phone orientation: there is enough room to show some clues to the right of the puzzle.
But overall I'd probably recommend waiting for something better... $10 is a lot to spend on not-quite-there software.
