Cascading Style Sheets can turn humdrum websites into highly-functional, professional-looking destinations, but many designers merely treat CSS as window-dressing to spruce up their site's appearance. You can tap into the real power of this tool with CSS: The Missing Manual. This second edition combines crystal-clear explanations, real-world examples, and dozens of step-by-step tutorials to show you how to design sites with CSS that work consistently across browsers. * Create HTML that's simpler, uses less code, is search-engine friendly, and works well with CSS
* Style text by changing fonts, colors, font sizes, and adding borders
* Turn simple HTML links into complex and attractive navigation bars -- complete with rollover effects
* Create effective photo galleries and special effects, including drop shadows
* Get up to speed on CSS 3 properties that work in the latest browser versions
* Build complex layouts using CSS, including multi-column designs
* Style web pages for printing
With CSS: The Missing Manual, Second Edition, you'll find all-new online tutorial pages, expanded CSS 3 coverage, and broad support for Firebox, Safari, and other major web browsers, including Internet Explorer 8. Css Missing Manual 2nd Edition
When I stumbled across the 2nd edition
of the CSS Missing Manual series on the app store. I am a huge fan of the 1st edition and have been meaning to buy the 2nd. I'm a busy full time collge student, who works also, so this much cheaper and "take-anywhere" version was perfect for me! It's the first book I've ever bought for my iPhone and it's interface is simple enough for a digital book that fits inside my phone. I'm looking forward to reading more!
Great book, please improve the reader.
This is an absolutely excellent book and I highly recommend it. It has an excellent, systematic presentation that demystifies CSS. Having a book like this on my iPod that goes everywhere with me is just a wonderful way to learn, wherever I am. The reader, however, needs some work. (It's usable, just not "sweet.") Please add zooming, without which the figures are almost useless. Also, fix the formatting of the text. And, finally, allow free scrolling in addition to "page flipping." Oh, one more thing. Why can't we have color? Anyway, great book, but the reader is sub-standard and, O'Reilley, us old guys have really come to expect better from you.
Wonderful CSS reference to have at hand!
I love this book - I build CSS templates and it's real world examples helped me immensely. The chapter on dealing with IE6 is worth the price alone! The whole thing is so well written and clear. It will quickly help you learn how to use CSS for both page structure and style. I have read a bunch of CSS books and this the one I'd heartily recommend. :)
