If you can’t handle the heat, then get out of the dungeon!
Dungeon Defense is a great looking game that is currently short on content. The game currently has one map with 25 attack waves with easy, medium and hard settings. The objective is protect your Dungeon King from Heroes and Wizards (who btw are the good guys) so this is a twist on the genre. There are a variety of knights and heroes (rogue, knight, mage) each with three levels of strength intent on trying to destroy the Dungeon King. Your defenses consist of several types of skeletons (swords, archers, axe), and your placement of defenses are limited to spots marked with a green “x”. One interesting aspect is you can watch your skeletons heal after they’ve engaged in battle or respawn after they’ve been defeated. Respawning and healing take time, but you can spend some of your gold to regenerate instantly.
Your skeleton fighters are rather intelligent in that they will move in a variety of directions to attack which adds to the impressive display, and the battles are entertaining to watch along with the sound effects of metal-on-metal clashes and groaning fighters. By using the zoom function, you can see that the devs spent a good amount of time on the details. Also, if you tap the Dungeon King, you have the option of increasing the speed of your fighters or slowing down the attackers at a price.
As with any TD game, there is value associated with upgrades and selling defenses, and the interface is pretty intuitive. The devs have promised additional maps and enemies so I look at this as an investment in future development. Other things that would great to add include additional weapons upgrades, additional enemies, more flexibility in placing defenses, a better victory/defeat splash screen (right now it just says “Victory” and then takes you back to the main menu)
I have to say that what the devs have done is create an impressive foundation for what could be a great game. They just need to offer more maps and more replayability. If you want a different twist with the potential for more, then Dungeon Defense is an easy decision.
Fun initially but.......
I purchased this game because of the consensus of good reviews but in all honesty, I am somewhat dissappointed with this game. The graphics and sounds are decent and the idea is good but there is much lacking in this game.
As a purveyor of fine TD games I feel that this is not nearly up to par with the standards of this genre. The old standby's like Fieldrunners, 7 Cities and Besiegement brought this game into the forefront of fun strategy games. Newer additions such as Sentinel and Elemental Monster TD keep it fresh and fun. But this game completely lacks replayability, maps, options and excitement.
I feel this is an extremely slow paced game even when you up the speed. The lack of maps makes for a very boring game (although the Dev's have promised new maps). The different enemies that attack are only 3 deep. Just as what you have to defend with are only 3 deep. It's basically a paper scissors rock type of setup. Upgrades are helpful obviously but it doesn't change the complete monotony of the game. Pair that up with being able to place your units on prespecified locations where again, you only have 3 to choose from adds to that monotony.
I am only giving this 3 stars right now because I think that this game has alot of potential but right now, I'm just not seeing it.
Awesome game, needs more
This game is awesome, I love the twist on TD (everyone is starting to get really creative) but it only gets 4 and will continue to get 4 because there needs to be options for 50 and unlimited rounds, also more maps, like forest and graveyards, not ust dungeons, but there should be atleast 2 dungeon levels and more skeletons, and the dark lord is very very weak, plus everything is really expensive (except the light skeleton), and to unlock the 50 and unlimited you should have to beat 25 first, and there should be a leaderboaard, and stats that say stuff like how many heros killed, most used skeleton, etc.
And make sure we can PICK the level when we start the round
