Overpriced

Content is great but $30 for a yearly subscription? Wake up EM.
Is it possible that there is a correlation between the number of paid digital subs and the high price? I believe the answer is yes.

Serious bugs

First off, there are no controls on screen. I open an issue to read and I cannot get a single control to show up. All I can do is swipe left and right through the pages, one by one. No home button, no way to quick scroll or easily tell where I am. If I'm on page 60, how do I get to page 1? Take a look at every other book/magazine reading app out there and follow suit. And yes, touching the screen does not turn on/off any controls either. If there are controls, they are most certainly broken.

Second, each page's load time (on screen rendering) while swiping is slow. This whole large file size PDF idea always bothered me. Also, each issue takes a while to download due to file size, so don't do it over cellular or you will eat your minutes up.

For a $30/year subscription, I thought this would have more interactivity and not just be a giant set of images with a hyperlink on each article to a plain text version. This is not a Kindle app with limited interactivity, this is an iPad app, so it should act like one. Other newsstand apps have great controls, searchable articles, a home button and fast loading times. This app feels lazy, like the people behind it just want your money, and don't care about your satisfaction. Please look into updating the user experience to match the standards that others seem to follow.

All bugs and poor design decisions aside, I bought it for the content, which IS still quite good, and the only reason i gave it any rating at all. So if you still want quality articles, it's the same as the print edition.

Serious bugs

First, the controls (within the magazine) require a "swipe down" to show, unlike most apps in which you just touch the screen to show/hide. It was frustrating until I figured that out.

Second, each page's load time (on screen rendering) while swiping left to right is slow. This whole large file size PDF idea always bothered me.

Third, each issue takes a while to download due to file size, so don't do it over cellular or you will eat your minutes up. While I appreciate the large HQ images, they are slow to download sometimes.

Fourth, for a $30/year subscription, I thought this would have more interactivity and not just be a giant set of images with a hyperlink on each article to a plain text version. This is not a Kindle app with limited interactivity, this is an iPad app, so it should act like one. Other newsstand apps have a great interface (E.g., NYTimes) and fast loading times. This app feels kinda amateur, like the people behind it just want your money, and don't care about your satisfaction. It's like when you see a "cut and paste template website" and its obvious. Please look into updating the user experience to match the standards that others seem to follow.

As far as price is concerned, make the app worthwhile and people will justify it. Right now, not so much.

Lastly, you can tell its just an automated system that is converting the articles from their print layout software to an iPad layout. You get all the ads from the print version, and have to scroll through them. Don't get me wrong, some ads are for products I'd love to have, but should I be scrolling through ads on a paid app?

All bugs and poor design decisions aside, I bought it for the content, which IS still quite good, and the only reason i gave it any rating at all. So if you still want quality articles, it's the same as the print edition.
