Very Nice - Needs Two Things
I speak, read and write Thai and this is an excellent reference for Thai words and phrases. If you do not know the written Thai language already, this is not the app for you, as it is what it says it is... a dictionary, not a Thai language teaching tool. It is very accurate and comprehensive for a relatively small app. No matter how fluent one is in any language, there is always a new word to learn that has never been seen. If the new word also happens to have an unorthodox spelling, the only way to know its pronunciation is to have a phonetic guide, so I agree with one reviewer on this point. However, as this is a reference and not a teacher, the phonetics should be Thai for Thai words and English for English words. English to Thai and Thai to English phonetics (as used in teaching books) are always littered with inaccuracies since there are letters and sounds in English that do not exist in Thai and vice versa. Anyone fluent in both languages knows this well when reading a Thai last name in a publication written in English. Lastly, to APPLE - why is it possible to have such keyboards as Japanese, Chinese and Korean, but no THAI? Please include a Thai keyboard in the next update as there are many Thai owners of iPhones. This app will be a 5 star with phonetics and a future Thai to English.
Good if you are already fluent
Only includes English word and Thai spelling. This app needs to include the phonetic spelling of the Thai word as well. Unless you can read Thai characters, it's not very useful.
Could be very useful
This is a great app. if your spouse is Thai and you are not. It helps to break the barrier. It could use more medical words. It's kind of straight forward English to writen Thai. Other than that, I think this will help your Thai/American relationship.
