There are better ways to do this
Documentation in the app is nonexistent. The pages are copy-protected images, so if you zoom very much, you can start see a lot of artifacts in some books. I can't figure out how to use the notes. The search function does seem to work pretty well, though. I think copy and paste and highlighting or book marking are the most badly needed features.
I can deal with pushing an arrow to change pages (even though it's something like 15 years out of date), but the inability to resize the text in any way other than zoom is just stupid. There are lots of file formats that allow you to lock up a text. Jeez, even a pdf file can be locked but still searched and highlighted! Oh, and to add insult to injury, I combed one publisher's site. If you look hard enough, they offer a disclaimer that eBooks may not have all the illustrations as the print book, because they may not have secured the digital rights. In other words, they didn't want to pay the extra money to include those illustrations. It's actually the publisher, not the app that's causing that problem, but it does lead us back to a central issue, here.
It's really obvious how willing the publishers are to abuse the buyer, rather than try to make a useful product. But, that's the way it has always been, and God forbid we assail the last bastion of old-school publishing and serious money-making. And, to add insult in injury, I can rent a print copy of many books for less than I can rent the eTextbook from Cengage...
I seriously hope the late-January announcement that Apple has planned really is a better textbook solution than this.
No Facebook Login
Theres no option to login using facebook, which I used to log in on my computer. Now on my smartphone the app won't accept my Facebook username and password to sign the normal way...Please fix!
Cannot read this on iPhone
I probably should have read the reviews 1st. These books should be available for iBooks or Stanza. Since you can't enlarge the text, it's too tiny to read. It's fine if you just need a reference on the go. Probably reads better on the iPad which I don't have :(
Oh well...
