My favorite.
Games come and go. You get impressed by new concepts, graphics, or storylines and excitedly pay to try the latest gimmick. Then you tire if the game, or finish it, and off the phone it goes.
Not so with Galcon. I've had it for months and I still play nearly every day.
The concept is simple: control your ships to conquer the universe. If you take over a planet, it will produce ships for you, too. The bigger the planet, the faster the production. But of course your opponents are trying to do the same thing at the same time, going after the same planets.
Offline mode is fine and gives you a flavor of the game. But it's the multiplayer online where the game shines. You're competing in very quick (usually less than 2 minute) blitzkriegs, mentally calculating your opponents' ships and production, determining whether you can overtake them without being blown out of the sky by other opponents waiting in the wings.
Easy to learn. Hard to master. Infinitely repeatable. Tons of fun. Not the only game I'd ever play, but my overall favorite game on the App Store.
good game, terrible battery drain
I'm a fan of Galcon, it's a fun little multiplayer game that I've been playing regularly over the last year. However, it drains the battery extremely quickly (you can feel your phone warming up with 100% cpu usage). Considering that it has very simple graphics (no 3D textured graphics), this indicates a lame implementation. I would give it five stars otherwise...
Was the Best iPhone Game Period!
(updated 11/05/2010) This was By far the most fun game for the iPhone. Now it lags sometimes. Based on others reviews the developers have stopped supporting galcon.
