Incredible!
Despite its large price tag, no mobile game has provided as well-rounded and satisfying for me than Ghost Trick.
The plot is an important element of a text-heavy game such as this one, and it truly delivers: at various times you will laugh, cry and always be engaged. The final puzzle and ending sequence certainly don't disappoint, although the final twists may seem to come from out of nowhere.
The gameplay is also very well done; the ability to possess objects has a natural flow, and both crime-stopping and exploration sequences have clever solutions; as has frequently been said, there is only one solution for each problem, but one still needs creativity to deduce the solution. Slightly less successful is a swapping mechanic added in the game's last five puzzles; it never feels completely realized and occasionally devolves into randomly connecting objects to find what can be switched. Overall difficulty isn't an issue- it never gets too hard , and you can restart murders over and over without any penalties. However, the difficulty is uneven; the last puzzle is very easy, while a prison escape sequence midway is probably the hardest chapter due to merciless timing requirements.
The game has several idiosyncrasies that may deter one, depending on their tastes, You will need to read a LOT of unimportant text that slows down the action ( although tapping and holding some dialogue bubbles can speed them up), and the game needs much more music- nearly every murder sequence uses the same music. Plus, the game's wildly unpredictable humor (although very well translated to English), may seem unfitting for the fairly serious plot, the main determining factor, however , is the time commitment required to play, You can save at any time, but the natural breaks don't come until the end of each chapter , which can take an hour to play.
However, the sheet excitement of stopping crimes and deducing solutions outweighs any detracting factor, Despite its unconventional presentation, ghost trick is a true classic and a fantastic ds port. It's a ten dollar purchase you won't regret.
Tricky little ghost, ain't ya, Sissel?
Woah. This is the smoothest animation that I've ever seen in a game. Coupled with a deep story so deep, I can't say anything except that the main character is dead, and his name is Sissel. Anything else is a major spoiler. And then there is the gameplay. Woot! So fun it is worth your 10 dollars. WOOT!
I want to perform another Ghost Trick.
I was compelled to write this review after just finishing a rather craptastic game (tip: avoid Dark Meadow), and thinking to myself, "God, I miss Ghost Trick." Not only is this game quite lengthy and enthralling, but the story is brilliant and it has the most unique gameplay I've seen in a while. I was sad to finally finish this game, because gems like this are hard to come by on iPhone. I highly recommend it. You will be captivated. And if you get stuck, just look up the DS walkthrough for help. It ain't that hard, kids.
