Description

GreenFinder helps you answer the most asked question on the golf course - "How far is it?"

GolfDigest says GreenFinder is "our favorite in golf distance programs built for GPS-enabled mobile phones". They tested our competitors and said they "weren't as reliable".

GreenFinder turns your iPhone 3G or 3GS into a golf rangefinder. It leverages the built-in GPS to display the distance to the front, center and back of the green as well as hazards along the fairway.

Features:

- Distance to the front, center and back of the green
- Distance to hazards along the fairway
- Can display your shot length
- Auto-advances to the next hole
- Use GPS to search for nearby courses
- Over 10,000 courses available and growing by 250+ every week
- Ability to mark your own course
- Supports yards and meters

Visit our website to see the full list of golf courses.

The iPhone 3G or 3GS is required. Does not work on the original iPhone or iPod Touch.

Be sure to have a fully charged iPhone before heading to the course, because GPS is demanding on the battery.

Killer App for Golfers for the iPhone (Cont.)

Per my last review, here are my Pros and Cons for the application.

Pros:
1) Very good accuracy rivaling a SkyCaddy and matching the course markings a majority of the time.
2) Great feature functionality including front, center, back measurements, hazard measurements, and shot measurements
3) Easy to use, nice interface, and it even shows a little satellite icon to show you when it’s locked onto a signal
4) Unlimited downloadable courses (no subscription fees) over the air

Cons:
1) Battery life drain is a problem – although any application of this nature will have this problem
2) No scorecard. Personally, I would not keep my score in my iPhone and I do not look at this feature as essential for a GPS rangefinder. However, to stay competitive with other apps as they come out, the application should probably include this (although it will drain your battery faster)
3) Needs more courses. Many of the ones I play are in there but many are not. Luckily, the application even lets you mark your own course using the GPS tracking on the iPhone.
4) While the accuracy was excellent, the time to lock on the correct yardage could still be improved. When the new 2.1 software is released for the iPhone which supposedly will include improvements in GPS accuracy, I hope the authors of this application look to improve this functionality even more.

I played today with it......

It works really well. When comparing yardage between sprinklers and Greenfinder, they were off by 3 yards at most, but were usually right on. Its easy to navigate. My one complaint isn't necessarily with the app. I didn’t like waiting the 5 seconds for it to find my GPS location every time it went to auto-Lock, so i turned it off but was nearly out of battery by hole 13. Great app. Need more Courses.

Great App!

I used this app twice over the weekend and found it to be accurate enough for my needs. I used it side by side with my Sky Caddie and noticed that Green Finder was only off by 2-3 yards typically. Like others have said, the battery drain is a bit of a pain, but a full charge should get you through even the longest of rounds. My first round was about 5.5 hours and I still had juice to spare at the end of the round. What I found helpful was turning the iPhone off while I was actually hitting, then turning it back on while I was driving up to my next shot. This gave the phone enough time to acquire a GPS lock, whole not totally killing the battery. I averaged about 2.5 hours of usage in this manner.

This app is totally worth the money!
